What is AWANA?AWANA is a children's ministry. It is a program of discipleship and growth. AWANA is an acronym that means Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed taken front 2 Timothy 2:15. The ministry has been utilized by over 14,000 churches in the United Sates. It involves a program of Scripture memorization, lessons, and lots of fun. OverviewThe AWANA program has several groups including Cubbies (pre-kindergarten), Sparkies (grades K-2), TNT (Truth in Training—grades 3-6), and Trek (grades 7 & 8). A typical meeting includes a time of registration and an opening ceremony before separating into respective groups. In group time, Bible verses are reviewed with a mentor. In council time, a Scriptural lesson is given. Council time is followed by a time of recreation. The evening concludes with a closing session where awards are distributed. Points and awards are given for successful memorization. Twice a year, points may be redeemed to purchase items at the AWANA "store". This ministry has helped many children grow spiritually and has given them enthusiasm to learn the Scriptures. |
